The Imo State Police Command has reactivated Operation VELVET across the State.

The operation is aimed at strengthening traffic law enforcement, promoting road safety, ensuring compliance with extant traffic laws and regulations, as well as facilitating the free flow of vehicular movement across the area.

In a release made available to newsmen by the command’s public relations officer, Mr Henry Okoye, the operation is in line with the directive issued by the Inspector-General of Police Mr. Olatunji Disu.

It emphasized that the operation will focus on serious traffic violations, driving against traffic, excessive speeding, obstruction of traffic, illegal parking, driving without valid licences or required documents, fake, altered or concealed number plates, serious overloading, unauthorised use of sirens and other offences capable of endangering road users.

It further stated that the Commissioner of Police directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, the State Traffic Officers and other operational commanders to implement appropriate Operation Orders for the exercise.

The Command therefore urges motorists and other road users to strictly comply with traffic laws and regulations and cooperate with police personnel during the exercise.
