The Ebonyi State Government is to enrol additional two hundred thousand residents in the state’s health insurance scheme as part of efforts to expand access to affordable healthcare.

Governor Francis Nwifuru
made this known when he received the National Executive Committee of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria MDCAN, led by its President, Professor Apollos Ndukuba, at his office in Abakaliki.

Governor Nwifuru said his administration remained committed to improving the welfare of medical doctors, healthcare workers and other allied medical personnel in the state public service.

He explained that the significant increase in the remuneration of medical personnel in the state was part of his administration’s efforts to attract and retain sound healthcare professionals.

Chief Nwifuru said that the government had reactivated the thirteen general hospitals across the state, recruited doctors, and allied medical personnel, and provided mobility support for doctors serving in the facilities.

Earlier, Professor Ndukuba explained that MDCAN comprises medical specialists who serve as trainers in public teaching hospitals and provide specialist healthcare services.

He said the association was in Ebonyi State for its National Executive Council meeting, tagged “Salt City NEC August 2026″.
