A cross section of civil servants living in Nsukka has identified poor remuneration, inadequate work tools and corruption as the bane of civil service in Nigeria.
They made their feelings known while speaking with Radio Nigeria Correspondent on this year’s Workers’ Day celebration.
One of them, Mrs Chimdiadi Nzurumike maintained that most Nigerian workers are resilient and dedicated in the discharge of their duties, but regretted that they don’t receive commensurate pay; urging the government to pay the workers a living wage.
Mrs.Nzurumike called on the government to consider the cost of living in the country and pay the workers accordingly.
Another civil servant, Mr. Peter Oriaku described Workers’ Day as a day of sober reflection when workers should examine themselves and know if they are progressing or not, while keeping their retirement from the service in view.Mr. Oriaku called on the government to match words with action on issues relating to the welfare of workers.
The respondents wished all Nigerian workers, a happy Workers’ Day celebration.
