The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) has called on families across the state to make HIV a strategic family conversation as part of renewed efforts to achieve holistic epidemic control.
The Executive Director and Project Manager of ANSACA, Dr. Nkem Okeke, made the call during an interview with Journalists
Dr. Okeke stressed that the responsibility for HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and the fight against stigma should not rest solely on the government and healthcare professionals.
He urged parents, guardians, and family members to engage in open and regular discussions about the disease.
Doctor Okeke explained that honest family conversations on HIV would encourage early testing, improve access to treatment, reduce stigma and discrimination, and promote healthier lifestyle choices among young people and adults.
The ANSACA boss emphasized the need for collective action involving community and religious leaders, schools, the media, and other stakeholders to raise awareness and strengthen preventive measures.
Dr. Okeke reaffirmed ANSACA’s commitment to expanding public awareness campaigns and strengthening partnerships aimed at reducing new HIV infections while ensuring quality care, treatment, and support for people living with HIV.
He urged residents of Anambra State to know their HIV status through regular testing and to support ongoing efforts towards eliminating the epidemic in the state and the country.
