Enugu North LGA Headquarters Hosts Mop-Up Exercise for Unverified Teachers from Enugu North and South LGAs.
The ongoing staff verification exercise of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) which is at the verge of conclusion recorded another significant milestone in Enugu North Local Government Area as teachers from Enugu North and Enugu South Local Government Areas who were yet to undergo the exercise were assembled for verification.
The exercise, led by the Permanent Member II of ENSUBEB, Mrs. Uche Eze, was conducted with the Permanent Member I, Mr Afam Nnaji, alongside staff drawn from various departments of the Board.
Addressing the teachers shortly after their arrival, Mrs. Eze charged them to uphold the dignity of the teaching profession by becoming role models both within and outside the classroom.
She urged the teachers to understand that their responsibilities go beyond teaching academic subjects, stressing that their conduct, attitude and personal values have a profound influence on the learners entrusted to their care.
According to her, teachers occupy a strategic position in shaping the character, confidence and future aspirations of the younger generation, and must therefore conduct themselves in ways worthy of emulation.
The ENSUBEB Permanent Member II, Mrs Eze, described the exercise at the Enugu North council headquarters as a homecoming, recalling her previous service in the area as an Education Secretary.
She said her personal journey through the education sector had given her a deep understanding of the challenges and responsibilities confronting teachers.
She further appealed to the teachers to come adequately prepared with their credentials and relevant documents to facilitate a smooth and speedy verification process.
Also, She advised teachers to arrange their documents properly, make photocopies of their credentials and provide a passport photograph for submission after being verified as it will significantly reduce the time required for their verification.
Mrs Eze emphasized that the exercise was not designed to frustrate genuine teachers but to ensure that the Board has accurate and reliable records of personnel serving in the basic education sector.
She also used the occasion to remind the teachers of the enormous responsibility entrusted to them as educators, urging them to inspire their pupils to believe in themselves and their abilities.
According to her, the teacher’s role is to prepare today’s learners for the tomorrow that is already here, equipping them not only with knowledge but also with confidence, discipline, creativity and the capacity to confront the challenges of the future.
The exercise, which involved teachers from Enugu North and Enugu South LGAs who had not previously been captured, witnessed an orderly turnout, with the teachers seated and ready before the arrival of the ENSUBEB verification team.
The presence of officials from the various departments of ENSUBEB further underscored the Board’s coordinated approach to the exercise, aimed at ensuring that the verification process is comprehensive, transparent and properly documented.
The exercise forms part of the Board’s broader effort to strengthen personnel records, improve accountability and ensure that teachers serving in public basic education schools across Enugu State are properly identified and captured.
