Enugu State Government plans 25 year development strategy to ensure continuity in governance

The Enugu State Government says it is working to guarantee continuity in governance and sustain development beyond the tenure of successive administrations through a twenty-five-year development plan.

Governor Peter Mbah stated this during the inauguration of a stakeholders’ engagement and data collection exercise for the formulation of the plan, aimed at driving sustainable and inclusive growth across the state.

Represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Emeka Ajogwu, the governor urged stakeholders to provide accurate information to identify development priorities in infrastructure, healthcare, education and economic growth.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Chris-Robert Ozongwu, said that the exercise, being organised in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, would align government policies with the aspirations of the people, integrate the Sustainable Development Goals and ensure continuity in governance.

Speaking on the occasion, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on SDGs, Mrs. Onyinye Akubuilo-Okpalamma, called on residents of the state to participate actively in the process, stressing that their contributions and outcomes would shape the state’s long-term development agenda.

Some stakeholders at the event including the Enugu State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Fabian Nwigbo, and chairman, Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council Igwe Samuel Asadu, commended the government for involving citizens in development planning, saying that community participation would promote public ownership and sustainability of government projects.

Correspondent, Okechukwu Ezeona reports that the stakeholders’ engagement is expected to establish clear development priorities across Enugu State’s seventeen local government areas, strengthen accountability, stimulate economic growth and improve residents’ quality of life.
