The poultry industry has been identified as one of the fastest pathways to food security, job creation and wealth generation in the country.
The National Vice President South East, Poultry Association of Nigeria, Chief Izuolisa Onu stated this during the Eastern International Poultry Summit held in Enugu.
Chief Izuolisa explained that the entire value chain in poultry provided employment for many Nigerians and ensured food security while growing the country’s agro- Gross Domestic Product GDP.
The Vice President said that the theme of the summit; “From Farm To Market: Scaling Nigeria’s Poultry Trade And Investment” was chosen to deal with the challenges in the poultry industry which includes high cost of feed and day old chicks, weak cold-chain logistics, limited access to finance and market linkages that fail to connect farmers to consumers.
There were goodwill messages from the Federal Ministry of Livestock, state ministries of agriculture and livestock from South Eastern states.
